Royce Gracie is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist, UFC Hall of Famer and the son of Helio Gracie. A legend and pioneer in the sport of mixed martial arts, he is widely considered to be the most influential figure in the history of MMA. Gracie gained fame for his domination in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He became known for beating opponents much larger then him
consistently outweighing him by more than 50 pounds. H
e was the tournament winner of UFC 1, UFC 2 and UFC 4. Gracie popularized Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and revolutionized mixed martial arts with his results contributing to the movement towards grappling and cross-training in the sport. He holds the most submission victories in UFC history with 11. Royce is the only man in the history of no holds barred matches to successfully defeat four opponents in one night. After leaving the UFC Royce went on to compete in MMA events in Japan and is a huge icon in many different countries. On November 21, 2003 at UFC 45 Royce Gracie was inducted into the first UFC Hall of Fame ceremony. On December 10, 2010 Royce Gracie was named #1 UFC MMA fighter of all time. The list of 25 fighters also includes such noticeables as Randy Couture, Matt Hughes, Chuck Liddell, Ken Shamrock, Tito Ortiz, and at number two on the list, Rorion Gracie.
