    Description

VINTAGE FROSTED CLEAR GLASS 2-FOOTED CLAM SHELL OPEN SALT CELLAR DIP NUT DISH
Please Note: This item is now free shipping!!!
When this listing was originally started there were six (6) of these salt dishes available.
You can buy one (1) or
as many as are still showing as available through this listing.
Just to be clear, the $ 8.99 price is for each salt. Please keep in mind that since only one of these salts was photographed for this listing there may be some very minor or slight differences in the appearance of the other ones.
This is a neat little open salt cellar or individual nut dish made in the shape of a clam shell.
The shell is supported and balanced with 2 tiny feet on the underside.
It is a quality piece of pressed glass made in a crystal or clear colored glass and has a satin or frosted finish overall on the glass.
    Please note:
The faint “spots” that you may see in my photos are from my camera and are not on the glass.
I recently bought a number of these glass “clam shell” salts, all identical in size and shape, but in several different colors out of a large collection of salt cellars.
There was a single milk glass one in this group and it was signed on the inside of the bowl in the glass: “Fenton” and the number “8” underneath inside an oval, so it is possible that these are Fenton but I wish to be clear they are not signed.
    In the book
    Fenton Art Glass 1907-1939
by Margaret & Ken Whitmyer there is a piece pictured, in a different color, on page 217 (bottom left) that appears to be the same shape as this piece and is described as a “shell ashtray” with a size given as 3-1/2 – 4-1/2”.
Pieces that appear to be the same as this one, but not the same color, are pictured as Photos # 299 and # 1233
    in the book
    5,000 Open Salts
by William Heacock & Patricia Johnson.
These authors write that this is “American made circa 1930’s and reference a Fenton item they say is the same shape but larger than this piece.
Regardless, it is a beautiful example and gorgeous as you can see from the photos!
I do my best to describe all items as accurately as possible and to the best of my ability.
Some of my photos may be somewhat lighter or darker than actual to better show detail or color.
However, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or with requests for additional pictures.
I will get back to you as soon as I am able.
I want your transaction with me to be exactly the way I want mine to be when I am the buyer.

    Age and Condition
    Circa 1930s.
All are in very good to excellent original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
One has a minor factory flaw on one of the square corners where the glass did not fill the mold completely and four of the others have one or two miniscule flea bites to the rims; all of which is extremely minor.
Otherwise, there are no chips, flea bites, cracks, hairlines or repairs and no visible signs of use or wear.
Please keep in mind these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
    Approximate Dimensions
About 2.375” (6 cm) across and sits about .875” (2.2 cm) off the table.
    Approximate Weight
About 1.125 ounce (31 grams) on average.
    SALES TAX
I am required to charge 6.5% Ohio State Sales Tax on all purchases shipped to an address within the State of Ohio.
